Becoming a Real Estate Appraiser Assistant is the first step in becoming an appraiser if you have no real estate experience.

To become a real property appraiser, you must first become an Appraiser Assistant. An Appraiser Assistant is subject to direct supervision by an appraiser who is certified in good standing, and may appraise those properties that his or her supervising appraiser is permitted to appraise.

In this 150-hour program:

REEDC APPRAISAL ASSISTANT EXAM SCHEDULE

 

LOCATIONS

Attend classes for the Appraisal Assistant Program in Manhattan,Brooklyn, Bronx, or Queens

REQUIREMENTS

State Licensed Real Estate Appraiser Assistant applicants must do the following:

  • Meet the 150-hour minimum education requirements of a State Licensed Real Estate Appraiser
  • File an appraiser application with the $275 fee
  • Be supervised in the conduct of their services by a New York State licensed or certified appraiser who must cosign any appraisal report involving a federally related transaction over the deminimus level, and
  • Utilize the same Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice as a state licensed or certified appraiser.

Upon satisfaction of the application requirements of the Department of State, the Department will issue a renewable 2-year State Licensed Real Estate Appraiser Assistant license.

NYS EXAM

There is no state exam required for Real Estate Appraisal Assistant License applicants.
