This recommendation is for Garry, one of the Property and Casualty Insurance Broker Pre-Licensing course instructors. He kept class interesting and fun and almost my whole class passed the exam the first time. He really seemed to care about his students and their comprehension of the material as opposed to just drilling the correct answers into us.

At the time of writing this, I am about 75% done with my classes at REEDC and I am having such a great time that I felt compelled to write a review.
The instructor is very knowledgeable, funny and engaging. When you are there, you genuinely follow the material because it is taught so well.

I have just finished my course and exam here. I cannot say enough about this wonderful place! There is a great concern and devotion on the part of everyone there that your experience is positive and you are happy with your learning. Most impressive was the incredible effort put towards job placement, recruiting, and real world networking.

The Property Casualty Insurance course was taught by Garry Smalley, a great instructor who engaged the class and made the whole experience worthwhile. Believe it or not, I remember laughing a few times in the class from some of the stories. I just got my license today! Passed on my first try, the course was more then enough if you are willing to study 1-2 hours a few nights a week

Just finished two weeks of classes, and I couldn’t be more pleased. The teacher, Greg is very impressive, having been in the field, and is a wealth of knowledge. He always has time to answer my many questions. I live in Brooklyn, and work in Manhattan, and if I don’t feel like coming into NY on weekends, I can go to their Brooklyn office, which works out well for me.

To become a licensed New York Life, Accident and Health agent, you must complete the 40-hour pre-licensing education requirement (or 20 hours for only Life, OR 20 hours for only Accident and Health). Then, you must pass the licensing exam based on the pre-licensing education lessons regarding principles, practices, statutes, and regulations relating to the insurance profession and services you will be representing to the public.
Once both of these steps are successfully completed, you must submit a completed license application with the New York State Department of Financial Services within two years of passing your exam. You must also pay all required fees for application and testing. The Department will review your application packet, verify your documents, complete a background check, then issue your license. Keep in mind you must be free of felony convictions and current with any child support payments.
Life, accident, and health insurance will always be in demand. People will always need to protect their families’ financial future, plan for retirement, and guard against the cost of illness or injury — needs that hold steady regardless of the economy. That makes a career in this field both stable and meaningful.
Agents who build expertise across life, annuity, and health products, and who bring strong communication and people skills, tend to find the most success. If you enjoy helping people make important decisions and want a career with genuine earning potential and work-life balance, becoming a licensed Life, Accident & Health agent is a rewarding path.
A Life, Accident & Health license lets you advise clients on and sell life insurance, annuities, disability income, long-term care, and accident and health coverage. You’ll help people protect their families, plan for retirement, and manage the costs of illness or injury — often as part of their broader financial planning.
No. The course is built for beginners, with no prior insurance experience or specific educational background required. You’ll complete the 40-hour pre-licensing course, which gives you everything you need to sit for the New York State licensing exam.
New York requires 40 hours to be licensed for life, accident, and health combined. If you only want to sell one line, it’s 20 hours for life only or 20 hours for accident and health only — but most students complete the full 40-hour course to qualify across all three.
Once you pass, you submit a license application to the New York State Department of Financial Services within two years. The Department reviews your documents and completes a background check before issuing your license. Keep in mind you must be free of felony convictions and current on any child support payments.
Yes. To sell Affordable Care Act (“Obamacare”) plans in New York, health insurance agents must complete an additional certification beyond the standard license. We can point you to the certification courses you’ll need once you’re licensed.
