This recommendation is for Garry, one of the Property and Casualty Insurance Broker Pre-Licensing course instructors. He kept class interesting and fun and almost my whole class passed the exam the first time. He really seemed to care about his students and their comprehension of the material as opposed to just drilling the correct answers into us.

At the time of writing this, I am about 75% done with my classes at REEDC and I am having such a great time that I felt compelled to write a review.
The instructor is very knowledgeable, funny and engaging. When you are there, you genuinely follow the material because it is taught so well.

I have just finished my course and exam here. I cannot say enough about this wonderful place! There is a great concern and devotion on the part of everyone there that your experience is positive and you are happy with your learning. Most impressive was the incredible effort put towards job placement, recruiting, and real world networking.

The Property Casualty Insurance course was taught by Garry Smalley, a great instructor who engaged the class and made the whole experience worthwhile. Believe it or not, I remember laughing a few times in the class from some of the stories. I just got my license today! Passed on my first try, the course was more then enough if you are willing to study 1-2 hours a few nights a week

Just finished two weeks of classes, and I couldn’t be more pleased. The teacher, Greg is very impressive, having been in the field, and is a wealth of knowledge. He always has time to answer my many questions. I live in Brooklyn, and work in Manhattan, and if I don’t feel like coming into NY on weekends, I can go to their Brooklyn office, which works out well for me.

The Property and Casualty (P&C) license allows you to sell homeowners, auto, liability and commercial insurance products.
Anyone wishing to obtain a Property and Casualty Insurance License must be at least 18 years of age, never been convicted of a felony or any crime involving fraudulent or dishonest practices, and be current in any child support payments. You must also submit to a background check.
If you meet the above criteria, you must complete a 90-hour minimum pre-licensing classroom requirement from a state-accredited educational facility. You must then submit an application to the New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) with all required fees. Lastly, you must successfully pass the exam prescribed by the Superintendent of Insurance and also possess an approved appointment from a sponsoring insurance company before you are granted your P&C Insurance license.
To complete your pre-licensing course, you must pass a proctored final exam with a score of at least 70%, which earns you the Certificate of Completion required to sit for the state exam. From there, you’ll take the New York State licensing exam, administered by PSI on behalf of the Department of Financial Services. You’ll also need a 70% to pass, and your certificate of completion does not expire.
A P&C license lets you advise clients on and sell insurance that protects property and guards against liability: including homeowners, auto, renters, flood, commercial property, and liability coverage. You’ll help individuals and businesses manage risk and protect their most valuable assets.
No. The course is built for beginners, with no prior insurance experience or specific educational background required. You’ll just need to be at least 18 years old, free of any felony or fraud-related conviction, and current on any child support payments.
New York requires 90 hours of approved pre-licensing education for a Property & Casualty license — one of the highest requirements in the country. These hours are specific to P&C and don’t carry over to other lines like Life, Accident & Health, which has its own separate requirement.
After passing the state exam, administered by PSI on behalf of the Department of Financial Services (DFS), you’ll submit your license application to DFS with the required fees. You’ll also need an appointment from a sponsoring insurance company before your license is issued.
The P&C exam is known for being rigorous, so preparation matters. You’ll need a score of at least 70% to pass, and results are provided right after you finish. Your course Certificate of Completion doesn’t expire, so once you’ve earned it, you can focus on passing the state exam.
