This recommendation is for Garry, one of the Property and Casualty Insurance Broker Pre-Licensing course instructors. He kept class interesting and fun and almost my whole class passed the exam the first time. He really seemed to care about his students and their comprehension of the material as opposed to just drilling the correct answers into us.

At the time of writing this, I am about 75% done with my classes at REEDC and I am having such a great time that I felt compelled to write a review.
The instructor is very knowledgeable, funny and engaging. When you are there, you genuinely follow the material because it is taught so well.

I have just finished my course and exam here. I cannot say enough about this wonderful place! There is a great concern and devotion on the part of everyone there that your experience is positive and you are happy with your learning. Most impressive was the incredible effort put towards job placement, recruiting, and real world networking.

The Property Casualty Insurance course was taught by Garry Smalley, a great instructor who engaged the class and made the whole experience worthwhile. Believe it or not, I remember laughing a few times in the class from some of the stories. I just got my license today! Passed on my first try, the course was more then enough if you are willing to study 1-2 hours a few nights a week

Just finished two weeks of classes, and I couldn’t be more pleased. The teacher, Greg is very impressive, having been in the field, and is a wealth of knowledge. He always has time to answer my many questions. I live in Brooklyn, and work in Manhattan, and if I don’t feel like coming into NY on weekends, I can go to their Brooklyn office, which works out well for me.

Becoming a licensed real estate broker is the next step up from a salesperson license; it lets you work independently, open your own brokerage, and supervise a team of agents. To be eligible for a broker license in New York, an individual must:
*A criminal conviction does not automatically disqualify you; applications are reviewed individually*
To complete your 75-hour broker course, you must pass REEDC’s proctored final exam covering the full broker curriculum. You need a score of at least 70% to pass, and you get three attempts. The exam can be taken online with a remote proctor, so there’s no need to travel. Our instructors make sure you’re well prepared before exam day.
A salesperson works under a sponsoring broker and can’t operate independently. A broker can run their own brokerage, hold escrow funds and supervise agents, or work as an associate broker within another firm.
REEDC’s broker course starts at $300. New York adds $15 for the state exam and $185 for the two-year license, so the total starts at $500.
Two years as a licensed New York salesperson with at least 3,500 experience points, or three years of general real estate experience (or a combination) with at least 5,250 points. You must also be 20 or older.
You earn points for transactions and activities, such as sales, leases and property management, and list them on your broker application. Your sponsoring broker can help you document them.
New York requires 152 qualifying hours in total. If you took the 77-hour salesperson course, you need the 75-hour broker course. If you took the 75-hour salesperson course, add a 2-hour fair housing or implicit bias class. If you took the 45-hour salesperson course, you also need the 30-hour salesperson remedial course. If you already took the old 45-hour broker course, you need the 32-hour broker remedial course instead.
The 77-hour and 75-hour salesperson courses and the 30-hour remedial course are valid for 8 years from completion. After that, they must be retaken.
It’s a 2.5-hour multiple-choice exam based on the full 152-hour curriculum. You book it through eAccessNY and pay $15 per attempt.
As soon as you meet the experience requirement. Live Zoom sessions run Tuesday through Thursday at 9:00am, 1:30pm and 6:00pm, and you can start with any session.
No. Many new brokers stay at their current firm as an associate broker, and open their own office later. If you do open a firm, your business name must be approved by the Department of State before you apply.
